Visual Art

Lower and Middle School classes include painting, drawing, illustration, ceramics and sculpture. Middle School students can choose between traditional art classes and ceramics. Students use either of our two kilns for firing clay works. Additionally, any Middle School student can attend Open Art Studio held during lunch periods. This is a relaxed time for students to unwind in a relaxed setting, working in mediums of their choice.

Upper School students have the opportunity to study all aspects of 2-D and 3-D visual arts. Additionally, our curriculum includes Studio Art and Honors Studio Art, which helps students prepare portfolios for competitive collegiate art programs. Any student can participate in Clay Club held during Club activity periods.

Our state-of-the-art facilities provide designated Ceramics and Sculpture rooms with large north-facing windows to allow for an optimal environment for our young artists. Finally, students in all divisions regularly have their artwork displayed in the Gammper Art Gallery located in the Moody Fine Arts Center lobby.

Photography

Middle School students can choose Digital Photography as their fine arts elective. This class focuses on digital photography techniques and includes a field trip to the Arboretum or other parks for a variety of focal subjects.

Upper School students can select Photography as a fine arts elective and/or participate in Photography Club. Students in either group have the opportunity to compete in the TAPPS photography competition or showcase their work in the Fall Film and Photography Exhibition or the ISAS Fine Arts Festival, held each Spring.
