Welcome to the Charger Sports Medicine page. Every aspect of the athletic training services provided by Shelton School helps to ensure three main areas: prevention, assessment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. We want to be certain that our student athlete’s are back with their respective teams in a safe and timely fashion after any injury. Our goal is to maintain a balance between competitive edge in a sport and safeguard participant safety.
Since 2013, Krystal Cunningham has served as Shelton’s head athletic trainer. During her time, Coach Krystal has organized a team of healthcare professionals to assist her with providing the best possible care to our student athletes. The Shelton School sports medicine team consists of orthopedic team physicians, family practioners, concussion specialists, licensed athletic trainers, school nurses, physical therapists, chiropractors, sports nutritionists and athletic training students.
Student Athletic Training Program
The purpose of the Charger Sports Medicine student athletic training program is to educate students interested in sports medicine. Education of student athletic trainers is accomplished by providing an educational experience that effectively combines classroom instruction and practical experiences. These experiences in addition to the many learning opportunities provided by members of our sports medicine team, allows our student athletic trainers to deliver a high standard of care to our students.
Expectations and standards for this program are much higher than that of a normal high school student. This experience requires a large commitment and a lot of dedication. Students interested in athletic training must complete a student athletic trainer application to be eligible for our Spring tryouts.
