ALTA CEUs: ALTA approval of 10 CEUs for the six hours of attendance and a pre-seminar reading assignment and post-seminar assessment.

Who Should Attend:

General education teachers: This seminar is designed to raise the knowledge base for general education teachers in the areas of multisensory instruction in spelling. The goal is to better serve all students, including those students with dyslexia and related disorders.

Dyslexia practitioners, Therapists and CALTs: This interactive seminar will enhance your practice with current research and multifaceted practice activities and materials.

About the Day: Dust off or enhance your spelling instruction!
This interactive presentation will follow a progression:

Part one: What is the normal progression of spelling skills? From attending to sounds to attaching symbols to those sounds, or phonological processing to the alphabetic principle.

Part two: The Lost Art of Spelling: Who knew there were rules? Discovering and practicing the rules for spelling base words.

Part three: The Lost Art of Spelling: Are there reliable rules for spelling derivatives? Discovering and practicing the rules for spelling derivatives.

Participants will receive manipulatives used in the workshop and a “Spelling Notebook,” which includes spelling activities.
