A MESSAGE FROM SUZANNE STELL Executive Director
COMMENCEMENT
Today the faculty and staff gathered to celebrate the year at our Staff Appreciation Luncheon. We honored those leaving Shelton's employ and recognized all our newest staff. We presented some special awards, and we kicked back and just had fun. Our wonderful Shelton Parents' Association hosted the event, and they have been a powerhouse of creativity and generosity throughout the year with time, talent, service and funds. In a year filled with potholes and pivots, they managed to raise $398,500, all of which directly benefits our students. We heard from Shelton alumna Julia Rosenblatt (Class of 2017), who inspired us with her words. She is a recent graduate of the University of North Texas, with a major in communication and marketing. While there, she held a marketing and communications internship at The DEC Network, a Dallas non-profit that ultimately offered her a job during her senior year. On top of that, Julia helped launch a non-profit called Smart Reach to help lower-socioeconomic communities through tutoring and mentorship services. Most recently, she has been accepted to Boston University, where she will pursue a Master of Science in Public Relations. Julia's time at Shelton included struggles, but she recounted the support she received and called Shelton her safe haven. "Oddly enough," she said, "I never called Shelton my school. I called it my home. None of what I have done and will be doing would have been possible without my Shelton community. You are incredibly appreciated and you all have changed my life. I tell you all this so that you can remember my story and remember that you all are the reason I am thriving. I am going to be successful, and I cannot wait to give back to the place that changed the trajectory of my life someday."
We have finished our first year in a consolidated campus that has been a dream since 2014. In just a few weeks we'll host two neighborhood groups on campus, and we'll start our summer school. Hearing Julia this morning, I know we have come full circle. This new campus is now home, and we are community. Dreams do come true, and let us commence.
Gratefully, Suzanne Alumna Julia Rosenblatt

A NEW MONDAY SHIRT FOR 2021-2022 Congratulations to sixth-grader Josie Terstriep, whose artwork will be featured on next year's Monday Shirt! Yesterday, Josie sent a video to Executive DIrector Suzanne Stell to present her with the first newly printed shirt. Above Josie is pictured with Assistant Head of School Mellany Barnett (L) and Middle School teacher Courtney Dios (R). Each year, Middle School teacher Courtney Dios continues a Shelton tradition, guiding students to create a design for our Monday Shirt. The design winners take a field trip to a local design firm, Kendall Creative, for a tour and a round table discussion leading to the final product. This year's meeting was held on Zoom due to Covid, but that didn't hamper our success. We still arrived with a winning design that perfectly depicts the main entrance of our incredible new campus.
Thank you to Kendall Creative (https://kendallcreative.com/) for making this opportunity possible for our students each year. We are proud to show off the work of our talented, creative students. Thank you Josie for your beautiful design.
