HERE'S TO 2021 - LET'S START WITH A THANK-YOU! As we resume school this week, we are so aware of how much we have to be grateful for! We hope your holidays were good. You ended 2020 with such generosity to our staff, and we want to offer our thanks. Shelton parents, with their abundance of holiday spirit, shared a record gift of $83,701 through Holiday Happiness with each of our faculty and staff members. What an amazing gift! If you have any questions regarding the tuition assistance application process, please contact Diana Liese at dliese@shelton.org LUKE JACKSON – ON TV WITH HODA AND JENNA Eighth-grader Luke Jackson both gave and received holiday gifts this year. His story was featured Christmas Day on Hoda and Jenna, a regular segment of the Today tv show. Luke's Lawn, his elaborate creation of holiday inflatables, has been described as a set design. The cheerful display reminds Luke of time spent driving around to see the neighborhood holiday lights with his dad, who is now deceased. He's also used his creation as a way to raise money for Cancer Support Community North Texas. Amazon got wind of Luke's Lawn and was so inspired by Luke's fundraising that they surprised Luke by adding $15,000 to his amount. View the entire feel-good story here.
Luke will also star in the upcoming Netflix movie, 12 Mighty Orphans, also featuring Luke Wilson (Luke's godfather), Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen.
It makes you feel good just to see what all Luke is doing outside the classroom!
Shelton Pride COURTNEY DIOS - IN THE NEWS Shelton alumna and now Middle School faculty member Courtney Dios was the subject of a feature story published by People Newspapers (Park Cities and Preston Hollow) on Dec. 29, 2020. You'll love reading it, because Courtney reflects back to the days before she came to Shelton, how Shelton helped her understand her learning differences and gave her some tools to pave her many paths to success. In her classroom today, Courtney now pays it forward with her own students. From eighth grade, to today – what a journey! Says Courtney, "My goal is to teach my students how to work smarter, not harder, and give them the knowledge where if they were put in a situation, they would be more confident."
