January 23, 2018 RE-ENROLLMENT OPENS FEBRUARY 1st
SHELTON HOSTS GAP YEAR FAIR JANUARY 30 The newer notion of a high school graduate's waiting a year before entering college is of growing interest and appeal to many. Come explore the concept of taking "time out" from traditional education and "time on" for experiential learning. Shelton will have some 50 organizations here Wed., Jan. 30, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. Debbie Knox, Director of College and Career Advising, is the liaison for the event. Contact Debbie Knox for more information. Here's the registration link for the free event.
YOU'RE INVITED TO HEAR JONATHAN MOONEY Decoding Dyslexia-Park Cities, PCLDA and HPISD PEC partner together to present author, speaker and advocate Jonathan Mooney for a family event. Bring your students, especially if they are feeling challenged in any way academically. This is a real-life story of perseverance, encouragement and overcoming!
Mooney shares personally and from the heart (with first-hand knowledge and experiences.) He did not learn to read until he was 12 years old, yet he rose to achieve honors as a graduate of Brown University in English literature. He has established himself as one of the foremost leaders in the neurodiversity and learning revolution and has published two highly regarded books that are integrated into education curricula at Harvard and Columbia University. His presentation will empower parents and students alike with concrete strategies to build positive self-understanding. The program takes place Feb. 5, 7:00 p.m., McCulloch Middle School.
Contact Michelle Zivaljevik (liaison with Shelton School) for more information, or visit pclda.org for general information about the organization.
