SHELTON WELCOMES CHRISTI CONTRERAS

We are pleased to announce that Christi Contreras joined us February 5th as Shelton's new Director of Capital Campaign.

Christi's prior experience in the development, non-profit and educational arenas will be a boon to Shelton as we continue with our exciting plans for a unified new campus.  Working with others, she will play a critical role as we expand our horizon at a new place and create new spaces where Shelton's educational model can be delivered to the amazing students we serve.

Christi's most recent experience was as Senior Director of Development with the Dallas Zoo.  Prior to that, she spent 14 years at SMU, serving first as Associate Director of Alumni Relations and later as Director of Parent Giving.

Working with consultants from The Education Group, our search for candidates began in September 2017.  Special thanks go to Shelton campaign members Win Bell (chairman), Kristy Robinson and Dee Velvin for their help throughout the interview process, which involved narrowing the search to five highly qualified candidates.  We all believe we have found the ideal combination of passion, energy and experience in Christi.  Together, with other members of Shelton's Development Office, we have a great team in place to guide our next important steps at Shelton.

Christi and her husband Robert are parents to an eight-year-old son.  In their spare time, they enjoy traveling.

Christi looks forward to working with all in the Shelton community.

18th ANNUAL JUMPATHON IS FEBRUARY !4th

CREATING AWARENESS ABOUT SADS

The Brian Price Jumpathon takes place for Lower School, Upper Elementary, and sixth-grade students on Valentine's Day.  The event creates awareness about the heart condition called Sudden Death Arrhythmia Syndrome (SADS), which is an electrical malfunction of the heart. Middle School Student Council began selling candy and stuffed animal puppies on February 5, and proceeds from then to February 12 will go to the SADS Foundation. All students and staff may wear jeans February 14. Voluntary donations of $5 (not required to wear jeans) will go to SADS.  Brian was Betty Glasheen's grandson, who died of SADS at age 15. Today, the gene Brian had can be identified, so no one need die of SADS.  Our Jumpathon ties in perfectly with February, national heart health month. Donations to SADS may be given to a student's advisor.  Here is Betty, helping young students last year as they get ready to jump rope at the Jumpathon.
