No. 23 Soccer’s Trinity Byars claims pair of national weekly honors

The Richardson, Texas, native scored vital goals at both Iowa State & Oklahoma State

AUSTIN, Texas – Two huge goals, that helped No. 23 Texas soccer (12-1-4, 6-0-2 Big 12 Conference) clinch at least a share of the program's first Big 12 Conference regular-season title since 2001, have been rewarded as sophomore forward Trinity Byars was named to both the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week (Honorable Mention) and the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for Oct. 25.

Byars has earned six combined selections as part of the various national teams of the week in 2022. The Richardson, Texas, native has now reaped three nods from Top Drawer Soccer, two from College Soccer News and was tabbed as the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week back on Oct. 12.

The Big 12 Conference goal-scoring leader continued her amazing 2022 campaign this past weekend at Iowa State (T, 1-1) and Oklahoma State (W, 2-1) by scoring her 13th and 14th goals of the season.

With Texas trailing Iowa State in the second half on Thursday, 1-0, Byars started the match-tying play with a pass to Lexi Missimo near the top of the box. She drove towards frame and accepted a lofted return feed from Missimo. Byars didn't waste her chance as she finished into the twine on a leaping seven-yard shot to make it 1-1. Sunday's goal proved even more valuable as Byars' 62nd minute score from 10 yards out proved the match-winner in a 2-1 triumph at Oklahoma State that secured at least a share of Texas' first Big 12 Conference regular-season title since 2001. Her team-leading sixth match-winner of the year also completed Texas' first victory over OSU on the road in Stillwater since 2002. Byars has proven to be incredibly efficient this season in front of goal, scoring on 14 of her 27 total shots on frame (52%).

Byars and her Texas teammates will wrap-up the regular season on Thurs., Oct. 27, by hosting rival Oklahoma at 7 p.m. CT (Longhorn Network). Following the match, the Longhorns will hold a Big 12 Conference championship trophy presentation before hosting their annual "Senior Day" festivities.
