Day in the Life of a Middle School Student

The Middle School day starts with a short time in morning advisory to allow students to get organized for the day and hear daily announcements.

Students then head off to their morning academic classes:

Reading (Students are in one of 4 programs carefully selected for each individual student: Association, SEE, AP, or Applied Reading)

A Social Skills class wraps up the morning and then students head off to the Dining Hall for lunch.

The afternoon is comprised of electives classes like Band, Art, PE, Computer Literacy, Drama, and Digital Photography.  The day wraps up with time in advisory again with time get organized to go home.

Other Activities include:

  • Student Council
  • Ambassadors - students that serve as greeters at Shelton events
  • Debate Team
  • Sports
  • Families - cooperative projects with Upper Elementary students to engender a family feel at the school
  • Cheerleading

Shelton's School serves full time students 3 years to 12th grade, as well as those who do not attend the school.  Students not attending full time can experience Shelton's programs through the weekly Scholars program and Summer School.

The Evaluation Center evaluates children, adolescents, and adults to obtain a complete picture of the client through psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and/or psychological evaluations and makes recommendations for remediation.

The Training Center offers training for educators, parents, and the community through courses offered online and in person.  Materials are also for sale that support the coursework and implementation of our varied programs.

The Clinic provides evaluations and therapy for children and adolescents with articulation, fluency, voice, language, auditory processing and reading problems at the clinic and with children at private schools throughout the DFW metroplex.
