Shelton School’s academic programs are carefully selected and implemented to serve full time students as well as children who are unable to attend Shelton’s full time school. Students not attending Shelton full-time school have the opportunity to experience Shelton's academic programs through Shelton Scholars, a weekly Saturday program that delivers specific multisensory structured language instruction in reading, writing, and spelling in a one-on-one setting. Summer School is another option open to all students that can include a special daily offering of the Scholars program and the wide variety of classes offered that encompass everything from writing book reports and learning math facts all the way to yoga and cooking classes.
Full-time Shelton students range from 3 years old to seniors in high school.
The school has four divisions:
- Lower School EC - Grade 2
- Upper Elementary Grades 3-5
- Middle School Grades 6-8
- Upper School Grades 9-12
Shelton School delivers a curriculum through multisensory instruction that meets the specific needs of each student with services including in-school group speech when needed, access to cuting edge technology, and two well stocked libraries. The fulltime academic program integrates academics with the fine arts, athletics, social development, and community service to provide a well rounded curriculum.
Shelton teachers have specialized training not only in their primary area of instruction, but also in specialized techniques that are specifically designed to reach learning different students in an engaging and encouraging way. Classes in organization and study skills, social development, and ethics are taught using curriculum developed at Shelton specifically designed to meet the needs of students with learning differences.
Each division focuses on three aspects of a child’s development.
- Lower School
- Setting foundations for life
- Create a nurturing atmosphere
- Developing positive habits
- Upper Elementary
- Continued Intellectual Growth
- Social and emotional development
- Physical well being
- Middle School
- Academic Excellence
- Positive Attitude
- Awareness of Self and Community
- Upper School
In addition to academics, students can also pursue their interests and emphasize strengths in electives and school clubs. Shelton has many opportunities for students to explore different areas of learning and build upon their talents.
