Course Description: This course describes causes, characteristics, and instruction for processing disorders. We address the brain's role in reading and processing information and the evaluation of mental/perceptual/academic abilities. The learning process of children with and without perceptual problems is compared. Identification and characteristics of dyslexia, ADHD, and other perceptual disorders are also explored. Common patterns of strengths and weaknesses in dyslexia and related disorders are presented to explain how the process of reading is fundamentally different for children with and without learning differences. There are questions in each lesson which relate to that lesson's objectives. Use the questions to check your knowledge as you proceed through the course.
