Judy Browne has decided to enter a new chapter in her career at Shelton. She will leave her position as Head of Upper School at the end of this school year and return next year in a classroom position.
Judy has been at Shelton since 1997, when she was recruited to help with the planned creation of our high school. She was at the helm as we added grades 9 - 12, resulting in a Shelton population that has grown from 408 students in 1996-1997 to 870 today. She and a wonderful team have helped develop Shelton’s high school program into one that is second-class to none. We thank Judy for her unique role in the history of Shelton.
One of the first things that Judy did at Shelton was to create a curriculum in ethics. It is to that field that she will return and devote many of her classroom efforts. So, one of her best gifts to Shelton is one that will receive more of her personal attention. We are fortunate to have Shelton retain her presence.
Linda Kneese, Head of School, will act as Interim Head of Upper School for 2012-2013. Administration will use the coming year to design the best plan going forward. Linda has been present for all of Shelton’s high school expansion, and she and the Upper School administrative team will continue to serve students and families competently. We remain focused on our mission, and we have a great team that will work to accomplish it.
Many families have contacted Shelton and would like to honor Judy Browne for her extraordinary service to the hundreds of students who have attended Shelton’s Upper School since 1997. To honor Judy Browne, we have established a scholarship fund. Ms. Browne has requested that any donations in her honor go towards Scholarships so that Upper School students can continue their education at Shelton.
If you would like to make a donation, please send it to the Development Office at Shelton School. Make your check payable to Shelton School indicating Judy Browne Scholarship in the memo line. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for joining us as we celebrate and honor the Founding Head of Upper School, Ms. Judy Browne
