Three groups of Shelton students were selected as winners in the 2008 Texas Media Awards (TMA) competition. Winners were announced April 17 in an awards ceremony at the Dallas Convention Center. The annual competition, sponsored by the Texas Library Association, promotes excellence in amateur media production.
Shelbi Hall, Margaret Heck and Shelley Hollingsworth won first place in the grades 9 - 12 division with their clay animation, "Animal Olympics." The video recording "The Adventures of Mega Butterly and Cocoon Girl: Courage Gone Wrong" took first place in the grades 3-5 division. Students involved with the project were Zachary Goldstein, Caroline Hunt, Isabel Kennedy, Kaleigh Kitchens, Charlie Lange, Samantha Lopez, Matthew Vines, Amy Whitaker, Jacob Whitby and Jack Wilson. r, MaKenzie Hagood, Artem Harrison, Allison Herchuk, Emily Hooper, Adrianna Luedtke, Sean O'Hare, Julia Rosenblatt, Zachary Schwartz, Reese Walter and Sam Wiggins worked as a team on the video.
Shelton faculty members Jerry Averill and Amanda Dockweiler encouraged students with their entries.
Shelton librarian Margaret Simmons was instrumental in having students submit their projects. "We've got some wonderful talent at Shelton, and the students were extremely proud of their teamwork."
